The Digital Literacy Program is a perfect example of “empowerment
through education, not charity a key tennet of the tCHF mission statement.
Accomplishments since launch in 2015
- tCHF and the school directors have seen improvements in cognitive skills and, creativity.
- Students and their teachers have gained new skills through the use of various productivity tools such as MS Word, Excel and, PowerPoint.
- Creativity and collaboration are providing new innovative ways for students to think about the world around them and to solve problems that are emerging in their communities.
Our motivation
tCHF believes that in a very competitive, fast changing 21st century world, learning environments in Haiti need to be enhanced to become digitally enabled.
Schools are often marginalized as it pertains to digital literacy in part due to various factors; the lingering poverty, the inadequate skills of many teachers and non-existent curricula in many schools for computer literacy.
- The tCHF Digital Literacy Program helps improve student academic achievement through the use of technology and to enhance student opportunities for higher studies.
- The program also seeks to assist teachers to become technology literate and, to connect them to valuable information for educational research to benefit their students and themselves
A focus on Collaboration and openness
tCHF believes success requires the involvement of partners and like-minded individuals and institutions that are committed to supporting open education resources for our next generation. Various studies have demonstrated that inadequate education and poor skills hamper economic growth and, make it difficult to get out of poverty. What we do plays a transformative role to help children escape poverty. We need your help, as failure to act places at risk the potential of future generations of Haitian children and youth.
What will the funds do?
New Funding will be used to purchase:
- New servers
- Upgrade our solar system for increase power
- Enhance the physical lab environment for the students
(e.g. ventilation, electronic and white board)
The potential impact of appropriate funding is tremendous as it will also have a ripple effect for elementary school children through other cities in Haiti.
Computer literacy education is one of the tools needed to help these children out of the cycle of poverty; this program is a seed to spark that transformation.
