There's a profound injustice affecting a people in our Americas. It's disheartening how we struggle to rally support for Haiti, no matter the efforts we make – from sharing photos and stories to making heartfelt appeals. Haiti and its people seem overlooked, and it's frustrating. Yet, when we connect with a child in need or hear their stories, we're reminded that giving up isn't an option. It's perplexing why Haiti's struggles don't garner more international attention, but despite the challenges, we refuse to lose hope. At the heart of tCHF’s continuing mission to the children of Haiti lies the conviction that education is a basic human right. Every child wherever he or she may be has a right to learn. We believe that education is a sound investment that transforms lives and builds better communities.

Haiti’s education system faces an array of challenges that have only been exacerbated by extreme poverty and natural threats such as the 2010 earthquake and most recently; the 2016 Hurricane Matthew.

”Additional years of schooling will boost a nation’s GDP. If every adult completed a secondary education, world poverty would be cut by more than half, according to UNESCO.”

As we embark on a new school year. Thanks to each of you for sharing our belief that education is crucial. There is a lot more work to be done. The tCHF back-to-school luncheon was a great success recently at Monmouth Worship Center in Marlboro, NJ. Many people joined us to hear reports about our programs and to learn about the effort in Haiti. In addition to great food and fellowship time – we also shared videos of our Digital literacy lab and heard testimonies from some of the children in the 7th, 8th and 9th grades on how the computer program is helping them with their studies and preparing them for the future. We are thankful to God.

The Directors of the school in Haiti recently shared with us that many of the children were traumatized by the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew.

They exhibit symptoms such as withdrawal, depression, that are commonly associated with post-traumatic stress disorder. The children are also very concerned about the fate of their parents, friends and their community. This has impacted their ability to learn and, to focus on their studies. They are now questioning why such events continue in Haiti?, why do they lose people that are dear to them? fearing that those people may disappear at any time in their lives. They are constantly afraid of being left alone.

In Haiti; children are expected to be resilient but, they are only children; plagued by major events, living in fear and, anxiety. No child should have to go through such events without the proper emotional support. The Directors are doing an awesome job to keep everyone focused but, they are in need of a psychologist who can lend a hand to help the children back to emotional health.

The school building was not damaged during the hurricane, it was used as a shelter for many in the community during and following the storm. The children will return to school in September. Being in school will give them a sense of security. We are thankful to God for His mercy.

Hurricane Matthew destroyed many cities in Haiti. Les Cayes in the Southetn part of the island was greatly affected. The number of lives lost is increasing. The children we support are OK but most have lost their homes. We are focusing on getting food for the community. Please partner with us and donate. Haitian Fathers love their children but many lack employment opportunities to help them grow. tCHF comes along the community we serve to help them provide for their children.
